Off Season Travel Can Save You Hundreds of Dollars

By: Cassandra Ingraham

Travel to certain destinations during off-peak periods and can save you hundreds of dollars.  This is a fact.

Nearly all popular travel spots experience highs and lows in the flow of visitors. During the low periods, airlines, hotels, tour operators, and other travel companies are eager to attract paying customers by offering deals. Price-cutting, freebies, and special offers suddenly become the norm in places that wouldn't otherwise offer discounts when the demand is high.

The number one reason for an area being off-season is usually weather-related.  It is important to find out why a particular destination has a low season. Rain that does not stop during the monsoon season in Asia or 120-degree summer temperatures in Death Valley might be more than you can handle.  Low season is often low for a good reason, however. Prices are cheap, but they often deserve to be. Hurricanes are blowing around the Caribbean and Florida, Egypt feels like the inside of an oven, the Andes are obscured by clouds. Many beach towns all over the world are literally boarded up in the off-season.

Check with your travel agent to find out the low and high peak seasons of your destination or better yet, use the Travel Library to locate a travel guide that will explain this method of saving in detail.
