New Travel Document Requirements                           


On September 2, 2005 , the U.S. State Department revised the original Western Hemisphere Travel Initiative.  The proposed rules will require travelers to carry a valid passport or other accepted document, which establishes the travelers identity and nationality, when entering or re-entering the United States

New Travel Document Requirements Time Line  

December 31, 2006 : New Travel Document Requirements will apply to all air and sea travel to or from Canada , Mexico , Central and South America , the Caribbean and Bermuda .  

December 31, 2007 : Requirements extended to all land border crossings as well as air and sea travel.
